Keep the right balance for your worms!

These pH test strips are a simple tool for monitoring the acidity of your wormery, composter or bokashi.

Compost worms live and thrive in a neutral environment. A pH that is too acidic or too alkaline can disturb them or even put them at risk.

An acidic pH can also attract pests to your compost: fruit flies, pinworms, soldier fly larvae or small spiders.

With these easy-to-use tests, you can check whether your compost is balanced. Simply dip the strip into worm tea (the liquid collected beneath your wormery) and compare the resulting colour with the chart provided.
If your wormery doesn't produce enough liquid, don't worry: just mix a little vermicompost with water (1 part compost to about 4 parts water), then dip the strip into it.

Instructions for use:

  • Dip the strip into the worm tea or your diluted vermicompost for half a second.
  • Take it out and, within a few seconds, compare the resulting colour with the pH chart provided (pH 1 to 14).
  • Do not use with solutions that are too diluted (less than 0.01%) or too weak.
  • Store the strips in a dry place, away from light.

Shelf life: 3 years.

Your questions about the pH Test

The farm's answers to the questions our customers ask us most often.

Your compost worms live and thrive in a neutral environment. As you add fruit and vegetables, the bedding gradually becomes more acidic; a pH that is too acidic, or conversely too alkaline, can upset them.

An acidic environment also attracts pests: fruit flies, fly larvae and small spiders. With the 72 strips in the pH Test, you can check in a few seconds whether your wormery is balanced, and you will know when to add RegulaWorm rather than adding it at random.

The pH Test works hand in hand with our RegulaWorm. Your worms prefer a neutral environment, between 7 and 8: if the strip shows acidity, add RegulaWorm (or powdered eggshells) to the active tray, then test again a few days later.

A slightly alkaline colour after adding eggshells is nothing to worry about: simply add them less often. If in doubt, email us a photo of the strip.

The pH Test box contains 72 strips, enough to monitor the acidity of your wormery for a long time. The strips keep for 3 years in a dry place, away from light.

Close the box properly after each use. A test every now and then is enough, for example when you notice fruit flies appearing. You can also use the same box for several bins: wormery, composter or bokashi.

Yes, the pH Test strips measure the pH of any liquid or diluted mixture: wormery, composter or bokashi. For a composter, proceed as with vermicompost: one volume of compost to about 4 volumes of water.

For a bokashi, an acidic liquid is normal, as it is a fermentation process: the test then helps you check that it is progressing well. However, avoid adding a large quantity of very acidic bokashi to your wormery without rebalancing it with RegulaWorm.

The pH Test is very easy to use:

  • dip the strip for half a second in the compost tea (the liquid collected beneath your wormery);
  • take it out and immediately compare the colour with the scale provided (pH 1 to 14);
  • read the result in a few seconds.

Do not use the strips in overly diluted solutions (less than 0.01%), as these distort the reading.

Yes, and the pH Test is still very simple: mix a little vermicompost with water, about 1 volume of compost to 4 volumes of water, then dip the strip in it for half a second and compare the colour with the scale.

Handy when you're collecting very little worm tea, which is actually a good sign: a well-balanced wormery produces little liquid, and the first month usually yields none.
