Who is WORMbox?
Did you know?Along with the City Worms, the WORMbox is one of the very first wormeries made in France for composting in your kitchen.
Moutta Farm has been breeding compost worms in the Béarn since 2007. So that everyone can recycle their peelings at home, the farm designed its own wormery: the WORMbox. The design and trays of the WORMbox are the result of more than 15 years' experience in vermicomposting.
The WORMbox wormery is made in France, in the Landes. The black parts are made from recycled and recyclable plastic. The WORMbox lid lifts with one hand and hooks onto the edge of the tray. The worms move up from one WORMbox tray to the next, drawn by the fresh waste, and the vermicompost is harvested at the bottom.
For larger volumes, the WORMbox 240 collective, also made in France, processes around 400 kg of organic waste a year thanks to its silo system. All WORMbox spare parts are available: tray, lid, planter, wheels, tap. The WORMbox wormery comes with a 10-year guarantee, the WORMbox 240 collective with a 2-year guarantee.
Questions about WORMbox products
How many trays should I choose for my WORMbox?
Allow 2 to 3 trays for 2 to 3 people, and 4 to 5 trays for a larger family or one that cooks a lot. Each WORMbox tray offers 13 usable litres. There is no need to plan for everything at the start: you can add a WORMbox tray later, up to 5 trays.
Are the worms included with the WORMbox?
No, the Eisenia compost worms are sold separately. We recommend 250 g of worms for 1 to 2 people, 500 g for 3 to 4 people and 1 kg or more beyond that. To cover the active tray of the WORMbox, add a round hemp mat, cut to fit the WORMbox.
WORMbox or WORMbox 240: which should I choose?
The WORMbox wormery with trays is designed for a single household, indoors. The WORMbox 240 collective is intended for apartment buildings, restaurants, canteens and businesses: it processes around 400 kg of waste a year, the equivalent of 5 to 10 households. The WORMbox 240 kit comes with 2 kg of worms and everything you need to get started.
Can I add a planter to a WORMbox?
Yes, the WORMbox planter replaces the lid and lets you grow plants or herbs on top of the wormery. You can choose it when ordering your WORMbox or add it later.
